Food Safety Regulations: Outline
There is an obligation on food businesses to ensure that their activities are carried out in a hygienic way. It is an offence for anyone to sell or process food for sale which may be harmful to health.
The council is responsible for ensuring that local businesses comply with these regulations. Hartlepool Borough Council will investigate complaints about unsatisfactory conditions or practices at food premises.
There are a variety of enforcement options available which are detailed in the Food Safety and Food Standards Enforcement Policy.
