Nature Conservation: Outline

The Council's Ecologist, based in the Landscape Planning and Conservation team, provides an advisory service promoting biodiversity, including a development control and planning support role.

The Ecologist also oversees Hartlepool's protected wildlife sites and protected species as well as raising environmental awareness through the delivery of an environmental education service.

The Countryside Wardens are responsible for managing the six Local Nature Reserves in the Borough of Hartlepool.

Their duties also include the organisation of various environmental education activities for local schools and community groups, and offering guidance and advice to the public on countryside and conservation matters.
