Drink Driving
Driving whilst impaired through alcohol gives an increased false sense of confidence, but has an adverse effect on reaction times, co-ordination, concentration as well as judgement of speed, time and distance. Drinking & Driving is an all year round problem.
In 2002, 7% of all road casualties and 15% of deaths occurred when someone was driving over the legal limit for alcohol. Male drivers under 25 had the highest incidence of failing a breath test after being involved in a road accident in which someone was injured.
Legal alcohol limits are:
- 35 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath
- 80 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood
- 107 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine
It is safer to not drink when you are driving!
