A to Z of services: General information about your business rates bill
General information about your business rates bill: Outline
If you own a business in Hartlepool you will probably have to pay business rates (also known as NNDR, or National Non-Domestic Rates). Business rates is the way in which businesses and other occupiers of commercial properties contribute towards the costs of local authority services.
Although Hartlepool Borough Council is the local billing and collection authority for business rates, the amount of business rates payable is determined annually by central government.
The money Hartlepool Borough Council collects is paid into a central pool, which is then redistributed to all local authorities based on their population.
