Q: How can I get my vehicle back?

Q: What if I don't want my vehicle back?

Q: What is surety?

Answer:

Surety is like a deposit.  If you don't/can't produce a tax disc you'll need to pay a surety as well as the applicable release and storage fees in order to get your vehicle back.

The cost of the surety payment is dependant on the type of vehicle:

  • Cars and motorcycles                                         £160
  • Buses, recovery, haulage and goods vehicles    £330
  • Exceptional loads, including lorries                     £700

You'll get the surety payment back when you tax your vehicle and produce a valid tax disc within 14 days of making the surety payment.

If you fail to produce a tax disc within two weeks you'll lose the surety payment and your vehicle could be removed again.
