Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My tree is covered by a TPO, do I have to get the Council's permission to cut it back/cut it down?
Yes.
It is an offence to carry out work to a tree protected by a TPO, or to remove it, without the prior approval of the Council.
If you want to prune or remove a tree covered by a TPO, you must first submit a tree works application form. A visit will usually be made to inspect the tree, and the Council will make a decision within eight weeks of receiving your application.
There are certain exemptions from the requirement to obtain consent, such as if the tree is dead. For further information see the Tree Preservation Orders page
