Housing Strategy

Hartlepool Borough Council is responsible for strategic housing in the borough.  This means that we take an overview of all housing related issues, including achieving sustainable and cohesive communities; in the borough and Tees Valley with our sub regional partners. We regularly look at the housing market, the condition of homes and how people can access social housing.

The Council in conjunction with the Housing Partnership has developed a new 4 year Housing Strategy for 2011 - 2015. 

It was produced in consultation with a wide range of partners, colleagues, stakeholders and residents. Its vision is:        

Develop and maintain successful communities where people want to live, by meeting the housing needs of our residents now and in the future

Three main priorities for the Strategy have been developed using a robust evidence base and reflect the issues and priorities identified through consultation: 

• Delivering new homes, contributing to sustainable communities
• Improving existing homes, supporting sustainable communities
• Meeting specific housing needs

Good quality, appropriate housing and sustainable communities are at the heart of the Strategy.

Delivery of the Housing Strategy will require a range of agencies and organisations, led by Hartlepool Borough Council, to work together to deliver the Action Plan. Progress made against the Action Plan and the key performance indicators will be managed and monitored through Hartlepool's Housing Partnership. An annual review will also be undertaken to ensure that delivery of the Strategy is on track and that the action plan reflects any changes in national or local policy which may influence how the Strategy should or can be delivered in the future.
