The service possesses a small, but interesting collection, mostly of native weapons and ornament from Africa and the Asian Countries.
Much of this material has important local family connections and has been an integral part of the museum since its opening. Nearly two hundred items were given to the museum as a founding collection by the Hartlepool politician and traveler Colonel Thomlinson.
The collection includes Indo-Chinese figures of Buddha, Indian dolls, Japanese Netsuke and Japanese Arms and Armour.
