Alleygate Schemes
What are Alleygates?
Alleygates are a means of restricting access to back streets in an attempt to improve the amenity of an area.
The first alleygates to be erected in the town were installed in August 2000. Since this time over 100 schemes have either been completed or are being considered at this time.
Anyone whose property is directly affected by the erection of alleygates is eligible for a key, which can be obtained from Church Street Reception. In order for us to be able to issue you with a key you must produce two forms of identity, which show the address where you live (examples would be utility bills, council tax bill, driving licence, passport, etc) and a £5 deposit, which will be refunded on return of the key.
Applicants for the erection of gates should, in the first instance, refer to the Council's Thoroughfare Policy.
Any problems with the gates should be reported by telephoning Hartlepool Connect on 01429 523333.
