Delivering Major Highway Maintenance and Regeneration Schemes
Scheduled highway maintenance is undertaken to provide sustainable, cost effective asset replacement and to add community value to the highway network.
The scheduled maintenance programme is developed from condition surveying information and is prioritised in terms of need. Assets in the worst condition are given the highest priority.
The scheduled maintenance team delivers carriageway, footway and cycleway replacement schemes to maintain the network to the appropriate standard.
The team also delivers a range of new developments such as safety schemes, accessibility schemes and environmental improvement schemes.
On 23rd March 2011 the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in his Budget announcement, made provision for £200 million of funding for local authorities to assist in repair to the damage to their highways following the extreme winter weather experienced over the previous few months.
