School Admissions

Applying for a school place outside the normal transfer times

Changing your child's school can affect him or her in many ways and the decision should not be taken without careful thought. We know that a number of families will need to transfer their child to another school during the academic year, rather than at the usual transfer times. This may be because they are moving into Hartlepool or moving within the town. These school moves are called casual admissions.

The Admissions Team co-ordinate applications across the town, so you can apply for any of the schools in Hartlepool by using the Transfer of Pupil Application Form (CAF2).  Your preferences will then be considered by the relevant school's Admissions Authority.

You can download a casual admissions leaflet and application form below or request a pack from the School Admissions Team on 01429 523765 or 523768, e-mail admissionsteam@hartlepool.gov.uk.

If you are turned down for a place, you can ask to place your child's name on the waiting list. If a place does become available in the relevant year group at the school, the child on the waiting list that best meets the published admission rules for the school will be offered the place.

You also have a right to an independent appeal if you are turned down for a place at any school.

For some specific cases the Local Authority operates a Managed Move System. This involves children attending another secondary school on a 6-week trial period. A transfer will only be completed if a pupil obtains a 90% attendance and behaviour record. Please contact your child's current school to discuss or pursue a Managed Move.
