Dog Warden Service
About the Dog Warden Service
Hartlepool Borough Council operates a Dog Warden Service which promotes and monitors responsible dog ownership, enforces dog fouling and dog nuisance legislation and deals with stray dogs.
The Dog Warden Service:
- Responds to all complaints as soon as possible but always within three working days.
- Responds urgently to sightings of stray dogs on school premises or interfering with traffic.
- Collects and returns your stray dog free of charge the first time it is collected (provided it has been microchipped and you are available to take charge of it).
- Collects all other strays and keeps them safely for a maximum of nine days for collection by the owner (subject to the payment of a fee).
- Works with local re-homing organisations and has an excellent record of successful home placements.
- Promotes responsible dog ownership through talks to Primary Schools and other groups.
- Provides free supplies of biodegradable "doggy bags" to dog owners from 'dog stops' situated at Seaton and the Headland.
- Enforces dog-related by-laws and the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996.
- Microchips dogs free of charge to promote responsible ownership (while stocks last).
