Comments/Complaints about a Taxi Driver/Vehicle

We are responsible for ensuring that only 'fit and proper' people hold a licence to drive hackney carriages and private hire vehicles.

If you want to complain about a taxi driver you may call the Council's Licensing Team on (01429) 523354, send an e-mail to licensing@hartlepool.gov.uk , or write to us at Hartlepool Borough Council, Licensing Team, Civic Centre, Victoria Road, Hartlepool, TS25 8AY

We aim to respond to all complaints within 2 days but to allow us to investigate matters thoroughly we may need to know things such as: -

  • Drivers Name (Every licensed driver must carry an identity 'badge')
  • Vehicle Registration Number
  • Vehicle Plate Number (Every licensed vehicle must display a 'plate' on both the front and back which gives the vehicles unique licence number - these will begin with either a 'P' or an 'H'
  • Vehicle description
  • The time of the incident
  • The location of the incident
  • Details of any witnesses

In some cases an officer from the Council may wish to take a statement from you but this should not put you off making a complaint or leaving a comment.

If you have had a positive experience with a taxi driver we would also like to hear from you. The majority of licensed drivers work hard to provide a good service and in some cases, drivers show outstanding commitment and quality of service.
