Who pays the bill?
When does the owner of a property or landlord have to pay?
If you live in one of the following properties, the owner or landlord will have to pay the Council Tax bill:
- Houses in multiple occupation. This covers properties that have been built or adapted to allow more than one household to live there. Each household is only allowed to live in part of the property and has to share facilities including the toilet, bathroom or kitchen.
- Houses used by religious communities.
- Properties used for residential care homes, nursing homes and some hostels.
- Houses used by an employer whose staff live in the property. This will normally cover people who are employed in domestic service.
- Houses used by a minister of religion and from where he carries out his religious duties.
