Business Continuity Management

What is Business Continuity Management?

The main purpose of Business Continuity Management (BCM) is to ensure continuity of service delivery following an unexpected disruption to normal working.  For example, in the event of a fire in the workplace, or a large number of staff reporting sick, the inability to provide a service may result in a business failing.

Without plans, managers will have to rely on an 'ad-hoc' approach to deal with these and the many other issues that will present themselves.  BCM is a process that will guide managers through what their businesses actually do and identify means of removing or reinforcing the weak points.

Further information on Business Continuity is available from a wide range of organisations, including Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit, who have a number of free downloadable BCM tools and advice.
