The Cultural Services of Hartlepool Borough Council hold an important and diverse collection of objects that reflect the history of the Hartlepool district. This collection includes objects of maritime history; fine art; decorative art; archaeology; social and industrial history; archives and ephemera; photographs; world cultures; natural history; costume and textiles and coins and medals.

The museum service continues to collect today looking to fill gaps in its existing collection and represent the modern history of the town since the amalgamation of the two Hartlepool Boroughs in 1967.

Much of the collection is placed on public display through permanent or temporary exhibitions at the Museum of Hartlepool and Hartlepool Art Gallery. Objects not currently on display are housed and cared for in our collections stores. These objects are accessible by appointment to the museum service.
