The service possesses a large and growing collection of archaeological material relating to the Hartlepool district. Most of the archaeological material has been excavated and researched by Tees Archaeology - Teesside's official archaeological service since the 1970s.

The collection includes finds from a Prehistoric Submerged Forest, an Iron Age and Roman settlement, a Saxon monastery and a Medieval port and town.  There are also fine pieces excavated from the site of a Medieval manor house in the village of Hart, once owned by Robert the Bruce!

The service also holds a small collection of foreign archaeology including Ancient Egyptian amulets and weapons and Ancient Greek vases.
