Asbestos
Dangers of Asbestos
Asbestos is the largest single cause of fatal disease and ill-health caused by work in Great Britain. Although almost all of the deaths and ill health related to asbestos today are due to exposures that happened several decades ago, if you work with asbestos, or come into contact with it as a result of repair and maintenance work, you need to be particularly careful.
Asbestos can be found as insulation and lagging in most buildings built between 1950 and 1980. It is still used in some brake pads and clutch linings and can be met in vehicle servicing and repair.
What law applies?
-
The Asbestos (Licensing) Regulations 1983
-
