Dog Breeding
Background
The Public Protection Division licence dog breeding establishments to ensure the accommodation and welfare facilities are suitable for the animals and arrangements are in place to control the spread of infectious disease.
A person keeping a breeding establishment for dogs is required to hold a licence issued by the Local Authority. Under the breeding and Sale of Dogs (Welfare) Act 1999, a breeding establishment is defined as one which has 5 or more breeding bitches.
Each bitch should not produce more than 1 litter per year. An inspection of the premises will be undertaken prior to the licence being issued to assess suitability of the accommodation and facilities.
Please note that a fee is payable.
