Gambling
Background
The Gambling Act 2005 (The Act) contains the regulatory system to govern the provision of all gambling in Great Britain, other than the National Lottery and spread betting.
Responsibility for administration and enforcement of the Act is shared between the national Gambling Commission and local Councils.
The Act contains three licensing objectives which underpin the functions that the Gambling Commission and local Council's perform. These objectives are central to the Act. They are: -
- Preventing gambling from being a source of crime and disorder, being associated with crime and disorder or being used to support crime
- Ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way
- Protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling.
Hartlepool Borough Council is responsible for issuing a range of licences and permits which authorise gambling activities. For guidance as to what permissions may be needed and how to obtain a licence or permit please see the links below.
