Where do I order a certificate?

Certificates for Births, Deaths, Marriages and Civil Partnerships for Hartlepool can be ordered from Hartlepool Register Office.

Opening hours: Monday - Thursday, 8.30am - 5pm and Friday, 8.30am - 4.30pm

Certificates for registrations outside of Hartlepool can be ordered from the register office that holds the register or online from the General Register Office

Can I pay for the certificate on collection?

No - certificates must be paid for at the time of ordering

Can you check the certificate details before I order?

We request that if you have access to the internet you look on Tees Valley Indexes to find the record you think is correct. We can then check that record to see if it matches what you think it will show i.e. 'mother is named...'

Can you tell me information that is on a certificate?

We are only able to confirm information or say it is a mismatch; we are not able to tell you the information on the certificate.

Can I order someone else's certificate?

You are able to request any certificate if you know the information contained on it.

Are there any certificates you can not issue?

We are not able to issue any birth certificates that are related to an adoption; for further information please visit the direct.gov.uk website or contact General Register Office - 0151 471 4830

We are not able to issue any certificates relating to stillbirths as they are held by the General Register Office; for further information please visit the direct.gov.uk website or contact GRO - 0845 603 7788

We are unable to issue marriage certificates for a church marriage if the register has not been deposited with us yet. If the register is not with the Register Office the certificates should be requested from the church directly.
