Top tips to reduce Junk Mail:

Mailing Preference Service
Registering with the Mailing Preference Service (MPS) can reduce the amount of personally addressed direct mailings that you receive by up to 95%.  It will not stop mail that has been sent from overseas, mail addressed to "The Occupier", or unaddressed mail from companies with whom you have done business in the past.   Registering with the MPS is free of charge.  To find out more, or to register, you can:

Log on to: http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/
Email: mps@dma.org.uk
Tel: 0845 703 4599

Door to Door Opt Out
Door to Door is the Royal Mail's direct marketing service that delivers unaddressed mail.  Registering to opt out of this service takes six weeks.  This service will not stop mail that is addressed to "The Occupier", or information from Central and Local Government and other public bodies.  To find out more or to receive an opt out form, you can:

Visit:  Royal Mail Website
Email optout@royalmail.com
Tel:  08457 950 950

Royal Mail will then send an opt-out form to your address, which you must sign and return. They do this for security reasons to verify that those resident at the address have requested the 'opt out'.

The Electoral Register
The Electoral Register lists the name and address of everyone who has registered to vote. The edited register is available for junk mailers but you can choose not to be on it. If you do not want your details to appear on the edited register you must tick the box on the voter registration form to be excluded.

Form Filling
To avoid generating unwanted mail, when filling in any form, from applying for credit to entering a competition, make sure that you tick the box that says you do not want your name to be added to any mailing lists. This is normally at the bottom of the form or on the reverse.

Online Services
Many companies you deal with, including utility companies and banks, offer online services.  As well as the convenience of viewing your account and paying bills online, you can also request to stop receiving paper bills and statements. You may also receive a discount too. Contact your service providers for more information.
