Sustainable Travel and Road Safety

The Road Safety and Sustainable Travel Team deliver projects and initiatives that promote safety, reduce road casualties, improve health and fitness, contribute to improving the local environment and help cut carbon emissions. 

Key to the service is delivery of Road Safety Education and targeted Sustainable Travel promotion to develop life skills to enable and encourage the use of more sustainable and active modes of travel.  Key promotional campaigns are delivered throughout the year along along with implementation of capital schemes that help to facilitate the use of sustainable modes of travel and encourage road safety.  

A large proportion of our work is with Schools - ranging from the implementation of Safer Routes to School projects, to provision of cycle parking, to road safety education for pupils, to promoting WoW (Walk once a Week).  This work is delivered under the 'Safe on the Move' brand

We undertake a range of work with local businesses.  This includes advice on Road Safety matters, assistance in the development of Travel Plans, promotion of sustainable / active modes of travel along with a range of driver training.  We also work closely with colleagues in Development Control to advise on Sustainable Access for new developments. 

We also do a wide range of publicity on Road Safety and Sustainable Travel promotion / information campaigns to inform the wider community of key information.
