Your Thoughts

Nearly 1,800 people have had their say on where the Council can make savings.

Thank you to all those taking the time to contribute their views. The results are summarised below. Click here to download the full results.

Your views are important because the Council expects it will receive significantly less Government grants and will have to reduce its spending between £4.1 million and £6.6 million out of a total of £93 million in 2011.

These reductions are in addition to the efficiencies and savings already planned for 2011 of £4 million.

In 2011 that means spending between £200 and £265 less for each household in the town.  As these reductions need to be made to offset reductions in grant funding they will not reduce the level of Council Tax.

Overall the key messages from the public consultation were:

  • Prioritise front line service, particularly key environmental services and services to help vulnerable adults and children
  • Make the Council as efficient as possible

The views expressed form part of the information that the Mayor and councillors will consider when they determine the Council's spending levels and priorities for 2011 onwards.
