Voting by Post or Proxy

Absent Voting

If you are unable to vote in person on election day you can apply to vote by post or proxy (i.e. someone who votes on your behalf). The form you will need to nominate someone to vote on your behalf differs according to your circumstances so you will need to call the Election Office on 01429 523088 and answer a few questions.

Your completed application form must be returned to Elections Office, Civic Centre, Hartlepool, TS24 8AY by 5pm, eleven working days before election day. The ballot paper will be sent to you about a week before polling day. If you will not be home at this time you should vote by proxy.

You can download our Postal, Proxy and Emergency Proxy Vote Application Forms below. If you appoint a proxy to vote for you he/she must be willing to vote on your behalf and eligible themselves to vote.

Your proxy will receive a proxy letter about a week before election day, enabling him/her to vote at the designated polling station. If you need to vote by post or proxy for an indefinite period due to disability, moving house or your work regularly taking you away from home then contact us to make special arrangements.
