Food Hygiene Awards

Food Businesses in Hartlepool

The scheme provides information about hygiene standards in the food businesses in Hartlepool and aims to help consumers make an informed decision about where to eat or buy food.  The scheme also acts as an incentive for food businesses to improve and maintain good hygiene standards.

There are approximately 750 food businesses in Hartlepool that are inspected for food hygiene.  The star rating does not reflect the quality of the food or standards of service.  The star rating awarded to the businesses is only a reflection of the hygiene conditions found on the day of the inspection.  Hygiene standards may have gone up or down since that time.

The Council has a statutory obligation to inspect food premises and by publishing the results through its website, it aims to help the public make a more informed choice about where to eat and to drive up the standards of food hygiene in the town.
