Scores on the Doors and your iPhone

A new iPhone application is making it even easier to find out how clean a restaurant or takeaway is when you fancy a quick snack or a night out. Even better, for those who have the iPhone 3GS and above, learning how many stars a food business has got is as easy as pointing your phone at the premises!

Food premises are scored from one to five stars with five being the top award.

Previously, to find out a score, people could either log on to the website www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk or they could use a wap or text service on their mobile phones.  These services are still available but in addition this new iPhone application means that owners can simply point their iPhone at a food business and it will tell you via a radar feature how many stars it has!

Since the launch of the Tees Valley Food Hygiene Award scheme in April 2007 the number of premises in Hartlepool awarded 3 stars and above has soared from 53% to 89.3%.  Over a third of food businesses currently have a 5 star rating and there are no zero rated premises in the borough.

To download the app for free go to the iTunes appstore and search for Food Hygiene under the lifestyle section or go to http://bit.ly/ukfoodhygiene
