Hartlepool Allotment Show 2012

We are pleased to announce that we will be holding a summer allotment show this year. It will take place on Sunday August 19th at Summerhill. The Show is taking place in partnership with the Hartlepool Horticultural Show which is on Saturday 18th August at the Borough Hall.

we are currently finalising the classes for the Allotment Show and we'll make the schedule available as soon as we can.

The Allotment Show will be modelled on a traditional village fete with fruit, vegetable and home-produce classes. The Show is going to be a bit different to a conventional horticultural show in that we are hoping to stage a fun, family event for tenants who are perhaps new to showing but who nevertheless are very proud of their gardening efforts. Rather than the traditional "longest leek" and "heaviest onion" classes, our show will judge the entries on taste rather than size, so if you think that you grow the tastiest tomatoes or the most flavoursome fruit then give it a go!

For those of you that do grow the show veg why not have a go at the Horticultural Society's Show this year? Show schedules can be obtained from Show Secretary Tom Hammond by calling 01429 870411 or downloaded here.

New tenants rulebook

The new tenants rule book is now available. You should have received a copy with this year's tenancy agreement but you can also download a copy here.

The rule book has been designed to be easy to use and clears up many of the grey areas and loop holes in the current regulations, to make tenants' rights and responsibilities much clearer. We have worked with the allotment associations via our Allotment Focus Group to ensure that both the tenants and the Council are happy with the new rule book.

If you have any questions regarding the new rules and regulations please contact us at allotments@hartlepool.gov.uk

Help shape the future of the Waverley Terrace Allotments Project

Since 2007 Waverley Allotment Group has been working to transform the unused land at Waverley Terrace into a vibrant community allotment site.  Users of the site have included schools, Hartlepool College of Further Education , Hartlepool MIND, Disc and Hartlepool Adult Services.  In 2011, the group were given the opportunity to expand the project and take over the adjacent unused land.

The group are currently planning for the future of the allotment site and how they can involve other partners and the local community.  They would like to hear your views!

You can complete a brief questionnaire on the plans and find out more about the project on their website
