Rights of Way Issues

The following list describes areas where use of a public right of way is affected. This may be due to authorised or unauthorised works, diversion or restrictions placed on some classes of user.

At certain times of the year some footpaths become muddy and slippery and in spring/summer overgrown vegetation can make the path difficult to use. These types of problems are not recorded on this page but we would be grateful if you could contact the Countryside Access Team.  See the bottom of the page for further details. 

Authorised Works

There are two main areas of authorised works, to be carried out in the near future:

Temporary Restrictions

  Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs)

1.      Greatham Public Footpaths No's 8 and 12

Works will be started by Northumbrian Water to improve the foul and drained water drainage system in the West Row area of the village.  This is likely to be of three to four months in duration.

2.      Seaton Public Footpath No. 11, Tees Road area

Trial holes work will be carried out for two days at the end of January/beginning of February.  The work is in relation to surveying works regarding tidal drainage systems of the area.

Permanent Restrictions

Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs)

The following paths have legal restrictions placed upon them to prohibit use of motorised vehicles - this does not include mobility scooters.

1. Greatham Public Byway No 14 

(from Greatham Back Lane  NZ 485 277 to Cloff Bridge NZ 482 262)

2. Hartlepool Public Byway No 22

(from Elmwood Rd NZ 493 335 to Wiltshire Way NZ 493 337)
