Schoolchildren will take part in a special event at Hartlepool Council's Community Hub Central on Monday to mark national Inter Faith Week 2017.

Pupils from a group of Hartlepool schools will be present at the Hub in York Road from 1.30pm to talk to members of the public about some of the different faith groups in the town. They will also be displaying religious artefacts they have made in their schools.

Councillor Alan Clark, the Chair of Hartlepool Council’s Children’s Services Committee, said: “Religious Education is an important part of the national curriculum taught in our schools. The Hartlepool Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education, which advises on RE matters relating to schools, and Hartlepool Council are delighted that schools have chosen to mark Inter Faith Week in this way to share their understanding and appreciation of our diverse society.”

Local historian Steve Robbins will also be at the Community Hub Central to give a talk on Hartlepool’s Spiritualist Churches during World War 1 from 2-3.30pm. There is a charge of £1 per person to attend and advance booking is preferred. Anyone who is interested can call (01429) 272905 or email central.library@hartlepool.gov.uk

As well as attending the Community Hub Central event, schools in Hartlepool will also be marking Inter Faith Week which runs from November 12-19, by holding special assemblies to discuss why it is good for people to talk and respect each other, and they will be inviting people from different faiths to come and talk about their beliefs.

Inter Faith Week is an opportunity for all communities to strengthen inter faith relationships, increase awareness of the different and distinct faith and non-faith communities and celebrate the contribution they make to our neighbourhoods and wider society.
