Safety events say no to bogus callers

Published Monday 8th February 10

COMMUNITY Safety Officers are to reinforce the message that bogus callers are not welcome in Hartlepool with a series of town-wide events.

Led by partners under the Safer Hartlepool Partnership banner, the events will see rading standards and olice crime reduction officers join forces with community safety officers to provide personal and home safety advice and information.

The events are aimed at raising awareness of targeted doorstep crime and bogus callers following a series of attempted deceptions last month.

The events will take place on:
Tuesday February 9 at the Central Library from 2-3pm
Wednesday February 10 at B & Q on Tees Bay Retail Park in Brenda Road from 9am - 12pm
Tuesday February 16 at the Herronspool Community Centre on Central Estate from 10-11am.

George Crooks, a Community Safety Officer with the Safer Hartlepool Partnership, said: "We want anyone who has concerns for themselves, relatives or their neighbours to attend and listen to the one-to-one advice these targeted events will provide.

"This two-way communication system is one of the tools the partnership is providing to drive down crime and keep our communities aware of local trends and through these events we hope to reduce the risk of further incidents taking place."

The events will also provide residents with free information packs and an adhesive sticker with the message 'No Door Step Calling' which residents can place on the front of their houses to warn off would-be cold callers.

Residents also have the opportunity to sign up to the Neighbourhood Watch system Ringmaster which sends out free crime messages to everyone who signs up, via email, text message, mobile or home telephone.
