Useful Hints & Tips - Saving Water

We are all using 50% more water than 25 years ago thanks to the increased use of washing machines and dishwashers, people taking more baths and more people getting into gardening.
The quantity of water we use each day can quite easily be decreased by making a few simple changes in our day to day lives.

Here are some useful hints and tips on how to use water wisely in the home and garden.

  • Water butt
Have a water butt fitted to your downpipe. Almost 100,000 litres of rainwater falls on the average roof each year, so if you have a water butt to collect the rainwater you can use the water for your plants and lawn and even for washing your car. If you want to collect more water than one butt can hold you can buy a connector kit to link up two or more. Water butts are available from Stranton Garden Nursery.
  • Hose pipes
If you do need to use a hose pipe, make sure you have a trigger to control the water flow so you can turn it off when you do not need it.
  • Weeding regularly
By weeding regularly you will be watering the plants not the weeds!
