What is extra care housing?
Extra care housing offers self-contained flats or bungalows within a shared complex. Each home includes its own:
- kitchen
- bathroom
- bedroom(s)
- living area
Care staff are available on-site round the clock to support residents who need help now or may need it in the future.
All extra care schemes include communal facilities and social activities to support independent living and reduce isolation.
Communal facilities
Each scheme may include:
- a shop
- a café or restaurant
- a communal lounge
- a fitness suite or gym
- a hair salon
- landscaped gardens
The aim of extra care housing is to help people live independently in their own home for as long as possible, with care that can adapt to changing needs.
