Making safeguarding personal (MSP)
What is making safeguarding personal?
Making safeguarding personal (MSP) is about placing the adult at the centre of safeguarding decisions. It ensures that their views, wishes and desired outcomes are heard and respected throughout the safeguarding process.
MSP aims to:
- involve the person (or their representative) in all safeguarding discussions
- support them to explore their options and decide what outcomes they want
- ensure professionals work together to achieve those outcomes
Who does safeguarding apply to?
The Teeswide Safeguarding Adults Board (TSAB) works to protect adults who:
- have care and support needs (whether or not the council is meeting those needs)
- are experiencing, or at risk of, abuse or neglect
- are unable to protect themselves due to their care and support needs
Is the safeguarding process working well?
We want to make sure the adult safeguarding process is working for you. That’s why we’ve asked the charity Skills for People to find out if people think we make “safeguarding personal”.
If our safeguarding team has worked with you or someone you care for, Skills for People may contact you to arrange a visit.
You can:
- choose whether or not to take part
- decide when and where to meet
- ask for an advocate to support you during the meeting
- be assured that your feedback will remain confidential
An advocate is someone who helps you express your views and understand the process.
