Services for people who are deaf or hard of hearing

If you are deaf or hard of hearing, there are services in Hartlepool to support you and your family. We can demonstrate equipment designed to help with everyday tasks, such as hearing your television, telephone, smoke alarm, or doorbell.

Local support services

Cleveland Fire Brigade – free home fire safety visit

Cleveland Fire Brigade offers free home visits to check for fire hazards and fit smoke alarms, including specialist alarms for people who are hard of hearing.

North East Association for Sensory Support (NRASS)

NRASS promotes the welfare and wellbeing of people with sensory loss. Services include advocacy, debt advice and welfare rights support.

Hartlepool Deaf Centre

Based at Café One77, 177 York Road, Hartlepool, the Deaf Centre provides information, advice, and activities for deaf, deafened and hearing-impaired people. Activities include arts and crafts, health events, bowling and a social club. A British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter is available at all events.

If you're experiencing hearing difficulties, speak to your GP. They may refer you to an audiologist for further assessment and support.
