What is social housing?
Social housing provides affordable homes for people on low incomes. Rents are subsidised, and homes are let on a secure basis to those with a housing need.
How is social housing allocated?
Most social housing in Hartlepool is allocated through Choice-Based Lettings (CBL). Instead of waiting for an offer, you can view available properties and choose the ones you’d like to be considered for.
Your housing needs will be assessed, and you’ll be placed into a housing band based on your level of need.
How to apply
You can register for social housing by:
- contacting Housing Hartlepool to book an appointment
- applying online via the Compass website
What you’ll need to apply
When you apply, you’ll need to provide:

- proof of address for everyone listed on your application

- a character reference (if you don’t rent)
