What we do
About us
Adult social care is part of our Adult and Community Based Services Department. You may know us by our former name: social services.
Who we support
We help people aged 18 and over who are vulnerable or at risk. This includes:
- older people (aged 65 plus)
- people with learning disabilities
- people with mental health conditions
- people with physical disabilities
- people with sight or hearing difficulties
- unpaid carers who support family or friends
How we can help
We can:
- work with you to create a support plan that gives you choice and control over the help you need to live independently
- offer advice on welfare benefits and help manage money if you’re unable to do so due to a mental health condition or learning disability
- provide equipment, adaptations and advice to help you move around your home, prepare meals and stay clean and safe
- give you information about local services and support available to you
Getting started
Before we can offer support, we need to carry out a needs assessment. This is done by a trained professional such as a:
- social worker
- social care officer
- occupational therapist
- or another qualified assessor
