Armed Forces Covenant

Supporting the armed forces community in Hartlepool

We are proud to support the armed forces community, including serving personnel, veterans, reservists and their families through dedicated services, partnerships and advocacy.

The Armed Forces Covenant

We signed the North East Armed Forces Community Charter in 2012 and refreshed our own Community Covenant in 2019. This commitment ensures:

  • those who serve in the armed forces, whether regular or reserve, or those who have served in the past, and their families, should face no disadvantage compared with other citizens in the provision of public and commercial services
  • special consideration is appropriate in some cases, especially to those who have given the most, such as the injured and the bereaved.

Armed Forces Champion and Veterans' Champion

We have two dedicated roles to support the armed forces community:

Employer recognition scheme – gold award

We have received the gold award from the Ministry of Defence, recognising our commitment to employing and supporting Armed Forces personnel, veterans and their families.

Armed Forces Liaison Group

We helped establish the Hartlepool Armed Forces Liaison Group to improve access to support services. The group works with the Ministry of Defence, statutory providers, charities and the voluntary sector to:

  • improve communication and understanding between agencies
  • identify opportunities for greater collaboration between agencies
  • share information about best practice
  • help to coordinate action to reduce health inequalities and improve services which impact on the health and wellbeing of the armed forces community
  • raise any other issues of concern

To contact the liaison group, email hartlepoolaflg@gmail.com.
