It is very important that you let us know immediately if you have a change in your circumstances as you may receive too much or too little benefit.
You have one month to tell us of any change. It is an offence not to tell us about a change of circumstance that affects your benefit.
Examples of changes you need to report:
- if your rent changes
- if your or your partner's income changes
- if your or your partner's capital, savings, or money in bank accounts change
- if you have a change in your status such as marriage, separation, or bereavement
- any temporary absence from home within the UK if likely to be more than 13 weeks
- any temporary absence from home outside of the UK if likely to be more than 4 weeks
- if someone comes to live with you or leaves your property
- if you stop getting Child Benefit
- income changes for other people who reside in your household
This list is only some examples. Please report your changes even if you are unsure whether it will affect your Housing Benefit entitlement.

Moving home while claiming Housing Benefit or Local Council Tax Support?
If you are in receipt of Housing Benefit and/or Local Council Tax Support and are moving address, you must let us know as soon as possible so that you do not receive benefit you are not entitled to.
If you are moving from an address in Hartlepool to another address in Hartlepool and wish to continue to claim Housing Benefit and/or Local Council Tax Support, you will need to complete a change of address form.
