Education, training and employment support for care leavers

We want every young person leaving care to have the support they need to explore their goals and succeed in education, training or employment. Our aim is to help you build confidence, develop skills and find opportunities that match your interests.

You will have access to a dedicated Education, Employment and Training Adviser, based at the Hub at Pathfinders. They can support you whether you want to continue in education, go to university, take up an apprenticeship, start work or gain experience through volunteering.

We work closely with partners across Hartlepool, including local employers, colleges and the DWP, so you receive up‑to‑date information on courses, training and job opportunities. We also discuss your goals at our Care2Work Forum, which looks at what support you need in respect of your aspirations and how to get you there.

If you are not yet ready for work, we can help you explore volunteering opportunities to build skills and confidence.

Education and Training support

We can support you to:

  • access bursaries for full‑time education, apprenticeships or university

With your consent, your Personal Adviser can speak with tutors and support staff to help you stay on track.

Higher education Support if you choose to go to university includes:

  • visit open days and attend interviews for colleges and universities
  • connect with Care Experienced Welfare Officers at colleges or universities
  • access tuition fee and maintenance loan support
  • Money towards the cost of graduation

Employment support

We can help you to:
