Housing options for care leavers

We want to help you find accommodation that meets your needs and helps you feel confident about living independently.

If you are an eligible or relevant young person, we will continue to pay for your accommodation until your 18th birthday. As part of your Pathway Plan, your Social Worker, Personal Adviser and Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) will help you explore your housing options before you turn 18.

If you are over 18, your Personal Adviser can help you:

  • find suitable accommodation
  • complete housing applications
  • attend housing interviews
  • access housing support services
  • claim Housing Benefit or housing-related support through Universal Credit

Applying for housing

Care leavers can apply for social housing in Hartlepool from the age of 17 years and 3 months.

Eligible care leavers receive Band 2 priority under the council's housing allocation policy.
