Women's History Month Exhibition | 3rd March - 26th March
Women have long used their creativity as a powerful tool for protest. The Community Hub Fab Lab team, with support from our weekly Craftly Social attendees, have produced six textile banners to celebrate the role of craft in women’s activism, drawing inspiration from historic movements such as the peace camps at Greenham Common.
Through stitching fabric and collective making, women have transformed traditionally domestic skills in to bold public statements. Textiles protest allows voices to be seen as well as heard, carrying messages of resistance, solidarity and hope. Each banner looks at different protests that have altered the law for women and brought communities together. In honour of women’s history month, the exhibition highlights the connection between creativity, activism, and the collective power of women.

Our Freedom: Then and Now | 20th April - 11th May
We are delighted to present Our Freedom: Then and Now, a vibrant national photography exhibition bringing together images from 60 locally led projects, marking 80 years since the end of the Second World War.
This exhibition features work from communities across the UK - including our own project, created here in Hartlepool, as part of the national programme. Working with local veterans and community organisations, we explored what freedom meant in this community in 1945 and how those ideas resonate today. Our contribution now sits alongside 59 other projects to form a powerful nationwide portrait of people, place and belonging. The exhibition opened at the Southbank Centre in London and is now touring to 18 arts centres and libraries across the UK, including Hartlepool.
Our Freedom: Then and Now is delivered by Future Arts Centres in partnership with Libraries Connected and supported using public funding by the UK Government through Arts Council England. The exhibition is produced by Future Arts Centres, Open Eye Gallery and the Socially Engaged Photography Network.
