The constitution outlines how we operate, how decisions are made, and the procedures that ensure transparency, accountability, and efficiency in serving local residents.
What is the constitution?
The constitution was created under the Local Government Act 2000. It sets out the rules and principles that guide our work.
Part 1 - Summary and Explanation
There are 16 articles which form the constitution and they set out the basic rules governing our business. The articles are set out in part two of the constitution. Only Full Council can change and adopt the constitution.
Part 2 - Articles of the Constitution
The other sections of the constitution set out the more detailed rules, procedures, codes and protocols that govern our business. Part four, for example, sets out the rules of procedure adopted by us for our meetings and decision-making procedures.
