Equality means being treated fairly and being protected from discrimination. It also means providing opportunities to remove inequalities.
Diversity means understanding that people have different cultures, backgrounds, interests and abilities; and seeing these differences as positive.
Inclusion means everyone feels included, welcomed and valued.
We are proud to champion equality, diversity and inclusion. We treat all our residents and staff with dignity and respect. We are doing this through our:
- equality, diversity and inclusion policy. This includes our equality statement and equality objectives. These objectives explain how we will fulfil our public sector equality duty. They were developed in consultation with people from protected communities.
- equality report. See Hartlepool’s population profile and the progress we are making against our equality objectives.
- single impact assessment process. This process ensures our decisions are fair for everyone and do not discriminate against people with protected characteristics.
- workforce report. We report on how our staff compares to the local population. It also contains our gender pay gap report, showing how women’s pay compares to men’s pay across the Council.
- staff equality network - we have a network for staff who are interested in equality, diversity and inclusion issues.
- staff training - we offer our staff a range of equality, diversity and inclusion training
