The Local Government Boundary Commission for England has completed an electoral review of Hartlepool Borough Council.
What has changed?
- Hartlepool is now represented by 36 councillors, an increase of three
- the borough is made up of twelve wards, each represented by three councillors
- All but one of the previous council wards have changed
These changes aim to:
- improve electoral fairness
- reflect community ties
- support effective local governance
Public consultation and final recommendations
The review followed two rounds of public consultation. The Commission considered all feedback before publishing its final recommendations.
The new arrangements were implemented through a draft order in parliament and took effect from the 2020 council elections.
