Post 16 transport policy statement - Policies, procedures and strategies

Overview

This policy explains the transport arrangements for students aged 16 and over who are continuing their education in sixth form or further education. Once a student is beyond compulsory school age (usually at the end of Year 11), there is no automatic entitlement to free home-to-school or college transport. Responsibility for arranging transport rests with the student and/or their parents or carers.

The statement outlines:

  • Financial support options for mainstream sixth form and further education students.
  • Travel assistance for students with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), including eligibility for concessionary bus passes.
  • Circumstances where Hartlepool Borough Council may consider exceptional cases for transport assistance.
