What is a hate incident or hate crime?
A hate incident or crime is any act that the victim — or anyone else — believes was motivated by hostility or prejudice based on:
- race
- religion
- sexual orientation
- disability
- transgender identity
This definition comes from the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
