Report Fly Tipping

Please give as much detail as possible, such as:

  • what has been dumped
  • where it has been dumped
  • details of the person(s) responsible, vehicle make, model, and registration of any vehicle involved (if known)

We aim to remove fly-tipped waste from public land as soon as possible after investigations are complete.

What we do

We take fly tipping seriously. We investigate all reports and actively pursue offenders. We have successfully prosecuted individuals and businesses for fly tipping.

Anyone found guilty of fly tipping could face:

  • A fine of up to £50,000
  • and/ or up to 5 years in prison

Information for householders

Under the Duty of Care legislation householders must take reasonable steps to make sure their waste is disposed of by a registered waste carrier.

Before you let someone take your waste, you should:

  • ask for their name and address
  • note the vehicle make, model, and registration
  • ask to see their waste carrier licence
  • keep a record of their contact details

You can also:

Check if someone is a registered waste carrier by contacting the Environment Agency

Legal powers

We now have the power to check waste carrier documents under Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act. This helps stop illegal waste carriers whose waste often ends up fly-tipped.
