Homelessness and housing advice

Are you homeless or at risk of losing your home?

You don’t need to be sleeping on the streets to be considered homeless. You may be legally homeless if:

  • you have no home of your own
  • you’re staying with friends or family temporarily
  • your current home is unsafe or unsuitable
  • you’ve been asked to leave your home

If you are homeless or think you may become homeless in the near future, we can give you advice about your rights and the housing options available to you.

How we can help

Our Housing Advice Team is responsible for carrying out our duties under homelessness legislation. We will assess your situation to see if we have a legal duty to help you find a secure home.

Only certain people qualify for priority housing under current homelessness rules. Our main aim is to prevent homelessness wherever possible. Even if we cannot accept your homeless application, we will still give you advice and support to help you stay in your home or find somewhere new.

For more information, please contact the Housing Advice Team at the civic centre.
