Can it be recycled?

Chargeable Waste

There is a charge for certain non-household waste at the Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) in Burn Road.

There is no obligation for HWRC’s to take waste that isn’t produced in the normal day to day occupation of a home. Waste from DIY or from garden alterations is not legally regarded as household rubbish. Such waste types are also expensive for the council to dispose of. By applying a small charge this will ensure that we can continue to offer disposable facilities for these materials to residents, who would otherwise find them difficult to get rid of.  Vehicle tyres are also classed as non household waste and are therefore chargeable.

What items will I be charged for?

Soil, rubble, hardcore and ceramics (toilet, sink, bath), plate glass, plasterboard, cement bonded asbestos sheets and tyres.

For further information on costs and how to pay please see leaflet.

Do I Need a Permit?

You will require a waste permit if you are driving a van, minibus or towing a trailer.  You also need a permit to dispose of hazardous waste.  Please following the links below for further information.
